Day 40 Walkers Rock to Streaky Bay and stuff in between
Beautiful morning to start the day this was the view from our fabulous campsite which was one of the best from the trip so far
When we drove out I took a photo of this sign just to double check that they appeared to be no name for any of the campsites however it was quite clear where the sites were
They were just red arrows with the word campsite at each of the turns and we could basically pick where we wanted to be.
there were quite a few people in nice little nooks and crannies but we had managed to find our own away from everyone

The beautiful violet coloured everlasting flowers were growing here

We drove down to the main car park area and where the toilet and shower block is as Bill needed to do a little bit of a repair work on the Anderson plug. He had discovered that the batteries weren’t charging and when he looked at the Anderson plug he discovered there was an issue with the connection. He had to spend a long time doing a temporary fix as it was in a very awkward position and needed intricate access and work done on it

I went and checked out the toilet block and used it

And I checked out the shower that was provided.

Don’t think I would be keen on using it as it is a cold water shower

Whilst Bill was doing the repairs I went for a little walk

Down onto the beach

The beautiful white beach with clear water

So of course had to take a selfie there

A couple of selfies actually - the second one to show the direction of the waves

Spent quite awhile down on the beach

This is where I was

A beautiful sandy beach

Water was so nice I just walked in the water in barefoot, the water wasn’t too cold however I was not tempted to swim

I walked up into the dunes behind the beach to get a good view

Saw more of the violet everlasting flowers

When I got back to the car park this gull was standing quietly watching Bill

The repair that Bill had done

So back out on the road out of the lovely walkers rocks campsite that we had really enjoyed

Nice sunny day with the Dunes in sight just off the road

It was very late morning by the time we left Walkers rocks. Just down the road we knew about this place that had raving reviews about it’s sticky buns

So we pulled in, the owners live in this old school house

We bought a pack of four sticky buns that we demolished immediately and a pack of four wholegrain bread rolls that we took away with us to pack for lunch the next day

Whilst we were sitting in the car enjoying our sticky buns Mark the owner came over to chat to us as he had just driven in from his other job as a diesel mechanic.

Whilst we were sitting in the car enjoying our sticky buns Mark the owner came over to chat to us as he had just driven in from his other job as a diesel mechanic.
I asked him if he minded my taking his photo because he looked so happy and he is obviously so happy with his lot in life.
He told us about his life at the moment - he has this amazing property with horses that he rides with his sons, incidentally his wife’s name is Corina spelt the same way as our Corina.
The property had a woodfired oven on it that he thought he would put to good use.
Turns out that he volunteered at the Farina bakery (that we know well from the outback as we have been there) and there he learnt the art of baking.
Whilst chatting he told us about Michael the 75-year-old that in later life developed motor neurone disease and is cycling to Ceduna

This is Mark and Carina‘s dog called Benji

The little church on the property with their horses

On the highway again

With views across to the massive lake Newland that stretched for miles

Drove through Port Kenny

And turned off along the road to the Talia caves

We followed the road along the shoreline to the furthest most point of the track as there were several viewpoints along this way

Beautiful views and we were the only ones there as other people were at the more renowned tourist spots

Stood and watched the gulls running in an out of the waves

There was a monument at this location

We spent quite a bit of time here watching the waves crashing over the rocks around the corner below the monument

And watching and listening to it crashing into this gully below

I eventually took a photo of the whole monument

Moving on driving back down the road we came to The Tub

An interesting large sinkhole

We pulled up the opposite side of the car park where we had really good views of the entire hole although I could not get a good photo of the entire hole
Bill took this close-up of the gap below where the water would come in at high tide

I took this photo of someone standing on the opposite side to demonstrate the size of the hole

Bill ended up climbing down over the rocks behind the hole towards the ocean

And he got some good photos of the waves crashing and the spray from the waves

I just sat at the top and took photos of Bill down below

This is one of the photos that he took from down below

This Wiki camps snapshot shows where we went next

Lots of steps down

And again lots of photos of this remarkable collection of rocks with the waves crashing over them

Bill went in right into the cave and took photos out towards the ocean

I stayed out of the cave at took this photo of a beehive on the ceiling of the cave

And the interesting rock structure of the ceiling of the cave

And also a photo of Bill inside the cave

Whilst Bill took photos of me standing outside the cave

Eventually moving on from here to our next point of interest

Passing signs to Port Kenny

And turning off to Venus Bay

Parking in there special parking for caravans with views across to their unusual curved jetty

And having some wraps at the local cafe - a very belated lunch

We walked back to the caravan along the beach going down beside the jetty

Walking past the Pelicans and gulls

Obviously used to people as they did not move when I went close to take this photo

Even managed to get a photo of this baby gull

Drove around the foreshore checking it out

And on the way back out of town found this old well

Back on the highway

And taking the turn off towards the haystacks

Wow we could already see them in the distance

When we pulled up in the parking bay I noticed someone in a high viz jacket with a bike and I realised that it must have been Michael that Mark at the Colton bakery had told us about

We stopped and chatted for ages and Michael even posed for me with his bike

I say we chatted but of course Michael cannot talk but he gesticulated and we understood what he was saying and when we didn’t Peter assisted with an explanation

We then headed off to explore the Murphys haystacks

We spent ages wandering around them, marvelling at them

And taking lots of quirky photos

We also walked further along the path to some others further along

And again spent time observing and playing with them

When we got back to the car park we communicated again with Michael who showed me photos on his phone of his bike that he had when he cycled along the Danube

There were so many flies around here bothering us I felt really sorry for them to be camping here in a tent and cooking out in the open

There were so many flies around here bothering us I felt really sorry for them to be camping here in a tent and cooking out in the open
We were planning to camp here as WikiCamps stated that there was camping but the only camping was beside the road in the car park and we didn’t fancy that or the flies so we decided to head for a free camp in the Baird Bay direction
I had been looking on WikiCamps to find a suitable place along the Baird Bay area for us to camp the night
We came to this junction and seeing how far it was still we needed to travel and it was getting late in the day we decided to take the turn to streaky Bay and find somewhere there to stay
So back out on the Flinders Highway we headed for streaky Bay
And continuing further out through town to the islands caravan park
Unfortunately the HEMA map tracking for the day went a bit weird and went out into the ocean because at one point when we stopped we put the iPad hidden in the centre divider and forgot to take it out till much later
The spot tracking shows where we are at the caravan park for the night
