Day 6 Parkes to Mirrool
Dull overcast this morning but the sun is still trying to shine through.
Went and chatted to the sheep and the llama before we left

Took photos of each of the signs on the gates as they were so impressive.

We hadn’t seen or heard from the owners of the property so I rang them to find out how to pay. Apparently there is an honesty box on the side of the shed that we hadn’t seen.
I asked where their house was as there were houses either side of the paddock we were in but they live elsewhere and they’re having a house built on the block

Out onto the Newell Highway. Passed over Billabong creek

Didn’t look like much water in it but no doubt it is usually bone dry

Next town we reached was Forbes

Looks like they are widening the road here. This project has obviously been put on hold now as work is diverted to maintenance on roads caused by flooding

Post Office

Stopped off in Forbes to check out the artwork in the park there.

We just had to stop and take it all in.

The Spot tracking shows where we turned back from

There was lots of sections with water over the road but the traffic was all controlled by all stop and go lights

There were even swans and pelicans in the water!!!

We continued on the Newell

We stopped in Wyalong to refuel- another ouch

Must have been a vintage car rally somewhere close by. We saw several of these

Sites as passing through Wyalong

Continued on to West Wyalong

But came across this reserve on the way so stopped to check it out. Lots to see…

This was a bit out of place in amongst the other historical items but had to include it

And have my photo taken, standing in it too!!

Came across several things on the trail around

We then went across the road to check out the wetlands

There were several information boards along the trail

Lots of beautiful big river gums

An excellently constructed walkway through the wetlands

With seating at the end

Lots of wildflowers and native plants

Lots of these Gazaneas. In the area. No idea why they were here. Pretty though

Moving on to West Wyalong the first thing that we came across was this depiction of the Drysdale painting of the Main Street by Gillie and Marc

The Main Street now

Mural on the side wall between the 2 cafes that we were deciding where to buy lunch

We ended up going in here and having a yummy healthy meal, sharing a lasagna and a quiche with some salad

Buildings seen as driving through West Wyalong

Continuing on to Narrandera but discovered Mirrool before we got there

Looked interesting so we drove in to check it out

This was as far as we got. The place looked so inviting that we decided to pull in for the night here

Pretty mural on the wall of the rural fire building

This is where we ended up - not a bad spot

Wandered around the area checking out the place…

Seen lots of signs like this on the roadside

Looked inside the amazing museum shed

This article was in the museum so had to go and check out the church!!

Our top camp spot

Needless to say - had to get some sunset shots

Took lots of shots as it was so spectacular

The pub where we had drinks and dinner

Had drinks and dinner in the pub

Cozy and warm by the fire for drinks

Then dinner in the dining room

The bar became a bit rowdy with a bucks party suddenly happening there!!

That was our call to go and have a shower in the very handy amenities and turn in for the night.

Interesting I had not heard of Gillie and Marc and the worlds biggest global sculpture project before

Drove down to Lake Forbes with the intention of walking along the path beside the lake but unfortunately the path was flooded!!!

Could at least get as far as this to see these totems

Continuing on our way towards West Wyalong

Past this De Havilland Vampire single seat fighter bomber

Lake Forbes Oxley Bridge

Fitzgerald bridge over the Lachlan river

Lachlan river

All the creeks are overflowing their banks

This was an amazing site when we came to this area

The water stretched for miles and miles on both sides of the road and for miles ahead too
It was at this point that I read about something that had happened later in the day where we were yesterday. Very thought provoking and sad. Couldn’t stop thinking about it..
