Day 22 Around Port Fairy

No photos this morning….
Should have taken photos of all our washing!!
We went straight to the laundry as soon as we got up, with a huge bag of a weeks worth of dirty clothes, towels, bed sheets etc. we thought that there may have been a big demand for the machines but luckily there wasn’t
It was such a beautiful sunny day that we decided to hang it all out on the line to dry rather than using the dryers.
By the time we had finished, brought all the washing back in etc it was very late for lunch.
We decided that it would be nice to grab a snack at the cafe down at the beach but unfortunately they had finished serving lunches, so we had to settle for other options. They did have scones so we had one of them but we spotted they also had our favourite florentine biscuits, so we shared one of them.

Beautiful day to be down at the beach

We walked a little way along the path

In front of the surf Lifesavers club where we had stopped for food

Drove into town along the beautiful Norfolk pine lined streets to find a pharmacy to have a prescription filled

We had decided to head out to Tower Hill in the afternoon.
we passed this Grampians turn off sign on our way as this is where we will be going tomorrow

A lot of Irish influence in this area hence the name of this small town we passed through

Arrived at Tower Hill only a short distance from Port fairy

Already looking very pretty

Impressed by this comprehensive instruction on this parking sign

Although all the literature we read implied that the visitor centre would be open it wasn’t

So we relied on the signage and a map we had to work out where we wanted to walk

So we headed off to Peak climb first

Lots of steps again - 134 altogether

Views across to the ocean and Warrnambool from the top

Then back down again it was not all steps some of the pathway had these little concrete slabs to walk down on

When back at the car park we saw this emu

Seemed pretty tame as I was able to get up quite close.
it must be used to people here

Next walk we went on from the centre was the lava tongue boardwalk

It was quite stunning walking over the boardwalk hearing all the different sounds of frogs and birds

And also wildflowers

At the end of that walk we saw this sign and so decided to go around on the lake edge track

A really pretty walk

With views of the lake

And wildflowers

And loads of swans on the lake some with cygnets

Views across to the island on the lake

Lots of emu droppings along the pathway too

Soon we were back at the visitor centre

This is my AllTrails map of the tracks we went on

Bill took these photos of the benches at the visitor centre for me as my phone battery was dying

And this magnificent flowering bush outside the toilet block

There were a few  kangaroos around the area

After doing all the walks we then headed back into Port fairy

Made a couple of phone calls to the family namely Cobi and Knaiche to catch up with them as it was a Monday

Took a couple of photos of beautiful old buildings for which Port fairy is well known

And headed for to the Caledonian for drinks and dinner

Chose this one as it is the oldest licensed one in Victoria

On our way back to our campsite we drove down to the waters edge and got to see the stairway to the moon

Managed to get some good shots before the moon clouded over
