Day 37 Port Lincoln to Coffin Bay

Not far to travel today
We were woken by beautiful bird song

The birds were in the trees right outside of our van

We had had a fantastic spot for the night to camp in

With bushes either side and some flowering

There were also lots of flowering yakkers along the track beside our campsite

Took a few photos of the site around where we were camped

These are views of the ocean at Port Lincoln from where we camped

Views as we were leaving Port Lincoln

Out onto the main highway

We came across an area called The Big Swamp

So we turned in to check it out

Walked along beside the water to the bird hide
Unfortunately there wasn’t much birdlife around

Back onto Flinders Highway towards Coffin Bay our destination for the day

Turning off the highway into Coffin Bay

We turned off the highway where there was a sign to a look out and to the start of an oyster walk

On to Coffin Bay

And into the caravan park where we had planned to stay the night. We had chosen to be in an unpowered site so we found ourselves a quiet spot right up at the back of the van park

There are lots of emus around this park so you have to be careful where you put your foot so you don’t stand in droppings that are everywhere

This adult and their chicks moved off the road as were driving out of the park later

We had spent most of the rest of the day doing washing and waiting in a queue for one of the only two dryers and also sitting in the camp kitchen catching up on emails accounting etc, so we decided to treat ourselves to some oysters, as this is THE oyster region of the area. So we headed over the road to The Oyster Shack

We shared a dozen each of natural oysters and Japanese style oysters which I had never had before and were delicious
And of course we washed them down with some bubbles and some wine

With a fabulous view out to the ocean although unfortunately it was not a clear day

Fabulous views of the clearwater from the oyster shack

This cheeky fella was being fed outside the oyster shack

After we left the oyster shack we went for a walk along part of the Oyster Walk

Photos of views and plants and flowers along the walk

Back at the Oyster Shack car park we were  impressed with the use of the old oyster shells

Next we went for a little drive along the coastline with views out to the oyster beds

We reached the oyster walk at old oyster town

And decided to take the drive through this conservation Park

With views out to the ocean

And with evidence of past bushfires in this area

We came across a historic site mentioned in WikiCamps

So stopped to have a look
There was an old well here

And the WikiCamps link explained what the areas C and D were

We continued along the road past these two historic sites

But it was clear that this road was becoming narrower and less traversable and possibly going nowhere so we headed back

Back at the campsite we cooked up the fish that we had bought earlier on on our travels and had a meal with wine that we had purchased earlier
This is the HEMA map tracking of the journey that we had done for the day

And this is the tracking that we had done around Coffin Bay
