Day 53 Narrabri to Glenore Grove
Awake early enough to see this sunrise at 6 am but took a photo through the van window as I didn’t feel like going outside!!!
Nice clear day
Activity at the Showgrounds included a water truck damping down the road to settle the dust - very different to when we were here on our way at the beginning of our trip when it was very wet and muddy
There was also activity on the track with trotting horses being trained
It didn’t take us long to pack up as we hadn’t unhitched

So out on the road, crossing the Namoi river in Narrabri
Our first priority, before moving on, was refuelling.
Using the Fuelmap app we found fuel here was at 234 a litre as opposed to 10c a litre more expensive elsewhere in town
The reason was that this place was also a fuel depot
Out on to the Newell Highway travelling north
Moree our next destination
Lots of roadworks along the way
There was a lot of activity on the development of the new inland rail along this section of the road.

Interesting to observe the different procedures involved along the way
As well as works on the inland rail this section of the road is also being widened
We eventually arrived in Moree
Where we drove around for quite a while before we found somewhere to park with the van. We eventually found a park and then walked to find a cafe to have some morning tea. Walked past this mural that I was only able to take a quick photo of as we drove past on our way through south
Lots of other artwork in the town though
We found a cafe in the Main Street
We then walked through the town to the information centre where we had our continued route north clarified as being clear of flooding,

Drove back onto the highway through town past where we had morning tea
Our next landmark on our trip home was the going over the border into Goondiwindi. A bit of a disappointing border sign
We first drove to Goondiwindi at this park
Where they had this Murray Cod sculpture
When I realised that we hadn’t driven into Goondiwindi over the old bridge, we drove back out again, over the Macintyre river
Back over the border into New South Wales
And along Gunsynd Way
and back into Goondiwindi
Over the old bridge
Where we found the Gunsynd statue
Information about the river and the flooding
And the tree of knowledge
Took photos of the mural on the water tower next to the tree of knowledge
We walked along the edge of the river along the levee that had been built in 1956
Then found lots of artwork in a lane way
Called into the Visitor Information Centre that we came across at the end of the lane where the artwork was
Then found a groovy cafe to buy some takeway to have on the road for lunch
Back past the water tower and bridge to where we had eventually managed to find somewhere to park the car and van
I had found out that there was a loch along the river a short way so we drove through town to get to it to check it out
Drove a little way out of the town through a housing area with large exclusive looking houses on large blocks, only to find that there was no access through to the loch past several of these houses
So - back on the highway towards Millmerran
Pleased to see this sign
After a while of driving we stopped at a rest area to have a break and to sit and eat our wraps that we had bought in Goondiwindi
Came across this sign way before we reached Millmerran not realising how wide the Toowoomba region spread
Bill noted how sensible and more effective the road repairs were being carried out here. The white markings show that the entire area is to be resurfaced not just the potholes
The crossroads hotel
We drove through Millmerran where we had camped at on our way south
Spotted these signs in the side of the road, put there clearly by someone not in favour of the Inland Rail!!!!
Slowed down by more road repairs
By passed Pittsworth that we had driven through on our way down but snapped part of this mural on the side of a building on the main highway
On the approach to Toowoomba we decided to go on the new toll way bypass although google maps didn’t seem to be sending us that way. We didn’t know why as it meant not driving through the town with traffic and traffic lights
We soon found out why the maps weren’t sending us on the bypass road -
We got part the way along it but then found that it was closed
So we ended up having to go through Toowoomba
and contend with traffic
Eventually we reached Glenore Grove
Where we pulled up at Paula and Kevs
And had a fabulous evening in their company, being wined and dined and chatting
A great last night of our journey just like our first day!!
